The Sustainability Society is a national network in New Zealand established to foster sustainability across the built environment.The Society provides learning and fosters dialogue on sustainability through workshops, webinars, forums and other projects.It takes a complex systems approach to sustainability, recognising that human and natural systems are increasingly interconnected and interdependent.

As engineers, scientists, architects, planners, asset managers and other development professionals we need to navigate a complex array of global and local challenges as we plan, design, build and grow communities.
We need to remain focused and decisive in the face of this complexity but it is often difficult to know which issues to prioritise at a project level.

This learning package entails a 1.5 hour webinar followed by a one day workshop which will expose you to some of the global trends driving sustainable investment decisions. It will explore the theory and practice of taking a broader view of ‘value’ in your built environment work and, in doing so, create more robust ways of mitigating risk and capturing market opportunities. 
Using international and local case studies, theory and interactive applied sessions we will:
* Look across a spectrum of drivers and frameworks that enable sustainability initiatives and recognise natural, social and cultural capital.  
* Drill down into application of these mechanisms within your context to influence stakeholder engagement, design, development and long term management of our environments. 
 * Explore how to construct the right story using these tools to communicate different value propositions and establish ways to enhance and measure a wider scope of value.

Monique Cornish
Principal Advisor (Sustainability, Risk, Resilience) at Tonkin and Taylor
Monique is a built environment specialist and has worked with a range of government, corporate and NGO clients across Oceania, Europe and the Americas to help them articulate, and respond to, environmental, social and governance risks, and to deliver sustainable, resilient outcomes to stakeholders. 
Monique specialises in linking sustainability and resilience measures to core business strategy, and measuring broader costs and benefits of initiatives and outcomes.  Most recently Monique co-led the development of a resilience decision-support tool for the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), which frames the evaluation of resilience measures in the context of broader environmental, social, cultural and economic costs and benefits.
Alice Greenhill
Sustainability Consultant at Deloitte
A consultant at Deloitte, Alice assists clients across a variety of industries and organisations in sustainability. With a background in environmental regulatory compliance and strategy, and formerly an environmental consultant, Alice’s strengths lie in the space of understanding the “why’s” of sustainability in different contexts and articulating these, as well as planning for and reviewing the implementation of best practices.
Alice’s experience has shown her that clients often are integrating sustainability in certain ways in their business processes or projects, however, may not be doing so very strategically or in accordance with best practice, and often have the opinion that sustainability is “all about the environment”. While a lover of the environment, she is also passionate about giving organisations and people the tools to integrate sustainability in meaningful and effective ways that are balanced across financial, environmental and social/cultural outcomes in both the short and long-term.

Emanuel Machado is the Chief Administrative Officer of the town of Gibsons. For over a dozen years Emanuel has worked with communities throughout Canada promoting a greater use of renewable energy, net-zero buildings, water strategies, social plans and sustainability frameworks.
More recently Emanuel has been developing a program for the Town of Gibsons called <A HREF="http://www.gibsons.ca/eco-assets" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Eco-Assets</A>, which recognises the role of nature as a fundamental component of the municipal infrastructure system, leading to a greater understanding of the value of ecosystem services and improved financial and operational management plans of the community's natural assets.
Emanuel will be joining us virtually during the workshops to discuss his experiences.

<H4 CLASS="MsoCommentText">REGISTRATION FEES</H4>
The registration fees include participation in both the webinar and workshop.
There are different registration options available including:
<UL>
<LI>TSS members exclusive discount fee - available only to members of The Sustainability Society</LI>
<LI>Affiliate members fee - offered to IPENZ and SBN members </LI>
<LI>Full fee - registration for non members</LI>
<LI>Organisational group discount - discounted registration for groups of 3 or more people from one organisation who register. The participants can attend any one of the three workshops.</LI>
</UL>
Note: It is possible to receive the organisational discount in addition to the membership discounts. 
<H4 CLASS="MsoCommentText">CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS</H4>
A 25% cancellation fee will apply to all cancellations. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop or non-attendance on the day will incur the full registration fee. Transferral of the registration is permitted however this needs to be discussed and agreed upon with TSS.
TSS reserves the right to cancel any session whereupon TSS will provide a full refund of any registration fee paid.
TSS also reserves the right to postpone a session where necessary. In this instance, the details of the rescheduled session will be communicated as promptly as possible to registered participants. If a registered participant cannot attend the session on the new date and no alternative person can be found to transfer the registration to, a full refund will be issued. This refund request needs to be made within 14 working days of the new workshop details being communicated. If the request is received after that period a 25% fee will be taken from the refund.
Refund requests can be submitted using the Eventbrite refund request form or by contacting TSS directly by email or phone. All refund requests received will be responded to within 5 working days.
