Event description

Description

Come and learn how to weave your own wahakura (baby bassinet) in the waikawa style from raranga teacher Jenny Firmin (no Whanganui).

This wananga is primarily for hapu mama and their whanau and supporting health professionals. There are limited spaces so first in first served.

The wananga will start with a powhiri at 4pm on Friday 29th September at Mana tamariki 165 Grey Street, Palmerston North and complete with a blessing ceremony of the wahakura by 3pm on Sunday 1st October, 2017.

Marae style accommodation is available at Mana Tamariki. Please bring your own blankets, sheets, pillow cases, towels and toiletries, and a koha for the marae. Kai will be provided.

WEAVERS and SUPPORTING HEALTH PROFESSIONALS are expected to attend the powhiri on Friday and continue to support the kaupapa for the entire weekend. Supporting the hapu mama will be priority.

HAPU MAMA and WHANAU are expected to attend Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 10am-3pm in order to complete your wahakura and learn about creating pathways to wellbeing. You are more than welcome to attend the entire wananga and stay if you choose.

Please ensure all tamariki are supervised by an adult at all times. There will not be any childcare supervision provided during the wananga.

Please bring a shared kai to the wananga such as home baking.
