The Waikato Women's Fund is turning one. Come and celebrate our 1st birthday with us!

With the Future of Women and their stories at the front of our minds we have lined up two amazing speakers for you. Join us for breakfast, listen to our speakers' views and stories and stay up to date with what the Waikato Women's Fund is doing in our community.

MC'd by the fabulous Jan Maree Franicevic

Our speakers are:

Hon. Nanaia Mahuta MP and Ninakaye Taane-Tinorau

Hon. Nanaia Mahuta MP

Nanaia Mahuta

MP for Hauraki-Waikato

Minister for Māori Development and Local Government

Associate Minister for the Environment

As a mother, and a constituent MP with 20 plus years’ experience who has come from ‘flax-root’ politics, Nanaia Mahuta remains connected to the aspirations of people from all walks of life. Those who work hard for a living so that their children can do better, kaumatua, trades-people, those who aspire to own their home, those who own small businesses and those who lead a range of services and organisations and huge iwi entities.

During her time in Parliament, Hon Nanaia Mahuta supported policies and initiatives that built the capacity of communities, especially social service organisations, greater investment in education, employment and training opportunities particularly for young people, supported the continuation of the Treaty Settlement process and supported specific initiatives that lift the wellbeing and opportunities for young mums and those who are vulnerable and victims of abuse.

As of the 2017 election, Nanaia is the Minister for Māori Development and Local Government, and Associate Minister for the Environment.

Hon Nanaia Mahuta is a tribal member of Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Hine and her parliamentary experience has enabled her to contribute to the collective aspirations of Maori and all New Zealanders

Ninakaye Taane-Tinorau

Ninakaye

An older sister to popular NZ artist Tiki Taane, Ninakaye has managed her brother, his companies and record label since 2007, and also acts as a mentor for other Music Managers via the NZ Music Manager’s Forum.

Outside of the music industry, Ninakaye has taught yoga for over a decade and recently shared free community yoga sessions with the Waikato community for an entire year, as one of only three certified Kemetic Yoga instructors in the country. A proud graduate of a Maori Performing Arts degree, a Small Business Management Certificate and various other qualifications, Ninakaye is also currently completing her facilitator training of Womens Safety Groups at Hamilton Abuse Intervention Project.

With an extensive wealth of experience across the Public Health, Event Management, Film & TV and Fitness industry’s, it is her colourful personal lifes journey that Ninakaye credits as her most profound school of knowledge and learning. Drawing on her experiences as a resilient mother of three beautiful children and grandmother of one, as well as a recovered stripper and drug / alcohol addict, Ninakaye has a huge passion for life, love, people and community wellbeing.
