Wairaki Stream Guided Evening Walk

Join us for an evening torch lit walk of your local Wairaki Stream that flows through Lynfield Reserve. We should see native fish and eels that come alive at night, plus freshwater bugs, wētā, beautiful autumn fungi, ruru (morepork) and who knows - maybe even bats?

Hear from Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust about a special project to help restore native freshwater fish to Wairaki Stream, supported by the Puketāpapa Local Board.

Friends of Wairaki Stream and Urban Ark - Manawa Taiao will chat about the restoration mahi underway in this lovely reserve, including important predator trapping. Enjoy a hot cuppa and biscuits afterwards (extra bikkies if you BYO cup :)

Bring a torch, closed shoes and warm clothes. Participants will need to be able to walk 800m across uneven ground with unformed track in places, and manage stairs/ slopes.

This event is made possible by the support of the Ministry for Environment and Puketāpapa Local Board. Please RVSP as numbers are limited! Any questions contact: kate@mountainstosea.org.nz

Organised by

Established in 2002 in Northland, Mountains to Sea sees education as a vital part of society and central to all environmental restoration. Our marine and freshwater programmes involve young people, their parents and the wider community. The Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) and Whitebait Connection (WBC) programmes reinforce simple concepts such as the uniqueness of our freshwater and marine biodiversity and provide an active focus on conservation of these environments through education and action.
