New Zealand's beaches and waterways are some of the most beautiful in the world, but they can also cause tragic incidents.
With Summer on the way, this water safety workshop, followed by Float First clinics, will raise your awareness and confidence in and around the water.
Brought to you by Drowning Prevention Auckland, this is a two-part event held on 18 and 20 November 2025. It's free, but spaces are limited.
What would you do if you fell into the water? How would you survive if you got caught in a current or rip? Knowing how to respond can make the difference between life and death.
Floating on your back gives you the best chance of survival if you’re in trouble in the water.
In this in-pool session, you will learn how to FLOAT FIRST in a secure and supervised environment, taught by Drowning Prevention Auckland’s Aquatic Educators at Hiwa Pool.
Suitable for all levels, it includes:
- Floating for survival
- Exploring different flotation
- How and when to self-rescue
- The Float first steps
Time slots available: 2-2.30pm and 2.30-3pm

We encourage you to attend the workshop and one of the Float First clinics (you do not have to be a Hiwa member to take part) to get the most out of this initiative.
However, you are welcome to attend one or the other.
Whether you are a beginner or more experienced swimmer, these sessions are suitable for all levels.
