About this event

Join DWC as we host Infometrics Principal Economist, Brad Olsen, for an After 5 Networking event to hear his take on the state of the New Zealand economy and what’s to come for the West Coast.

Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, New Zealand’s economy has shown itself to be resilient and weathered restrictions, outbreaks, and vaccine rollouts to end up with better health and economic outcomes than most of the world. But substantial challenges remain, with high inflation, threats of a recession, and high absenteeism as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Supply chains remain disrupted, the labour market is stretched, and a brain drain has developed. Interest rates are rising for the first time in nearly a decade, and the housing market is in decline.

There’s a huge amount of change currently underway at breakneck speed. Infometrics Principal Economist Brad Olsen will discuss how all of these factors are connected, and how they might play out for the West Coast, over 2022 as we navigate another uncertain year with COVID-19.
