What Matariki Means to Us
Date and time
A free talk by artists Lissy and Rudi about why they’re making Wharenui Harikoa and what it’s taught them about Matariki and themselves
About this event
Loop by loop, Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole are creating Wharenui Harikoa, a full-size wharenui that uses the stars of the Matariki clusters as its foundational elements.
When the wharenui is complete in Matariki 2023, Lissy and Rudi hope it will become a place of contemplation and conversation that will bring about a greater understanding of Māori culture.
During their Matariki residency at Britomart, Lissy (Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Kahu) and Rudi (Ngāti Paoa, Waikato, Ngāruahine, Te Arawa) will be giving a free talk about the daunting task of making Wharenui Harikoa, why they’re doing it, and what it’s taught them about Matariki and themselves.
This very special event is free but registration is essential.
5.30pm, Wednesday 13 July, 30 Te Ara Tahuhu (opposite the Ted Baker store), Atrium on Takutai on Takutai Square, Britomart.
