About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 15 minutes

Ever wondered about writing a piece of your own personal history?

Unlike an autobiography, which aims to cover an entire life, a memoir delves into a particular aspect, event, or time, a pivotal moment or a significant phase.

Join author Caroline Barron for an insightful discussion about how you start - and what makes for an engaging memoir.

Caroline's memoir, RIPIRO BEACH (Bateman, New Zealand), won the 2020 New Zealand Heritage Literary Award for Best Non-fiction Book.

Get an insider's perspective on writing memoir and learn what you need to know and where to start.

We'll be discussing...

  • What a memoir is and isn't
  • Choosing which part of your story to tell. How small is too small?
  • Getting past the fear of "I might upset someone."
  • Deciding where to start and where to finish.
  • The ethics involved in writing a memoir
  • The primary approaches to structuring a memoir

NB: This session is ONLINE and the Zoom link will be sent out on Monday 9th June to the email address you supply when registering.

An audio recording of this discussion will be available to registered participants.
