About this event

Rainbow/Takatāpui people in Aotearoa face a range of complex issues and minority stress, and counsellors and social workers do not always receive specific training about their needs and experiences despite sitting among the highest risk for mental health issues and suicide (due to minority stress).

What will the training cover?

• Diverse Experiences

• Key Concepts and terminology; Gender Identities (GI), Sexual Orientations (SO), & Sex Characteristics/Intersex (SC)

• Minority stress and Internalised Oppression

• Developing a rainbow inclusive practice

• Resources and questions

The training is shaped to the needs of the audience through creative interactions.

Chloe Rigg is an ACC sensitive claims counsellor, also working in private practice, and is an NZAC supervisor. She works with all ages but has a particular interest in counselling youth and the LGBTQAI+ community, or as the term we use Rainbow/Takatāpaui, which includes all gender identities, sexual orientations, and sex characteristics/intersex (GI, SO and SC). She co-founded Rainbow EBOP in Whakatane. Rainbow EBOP is a local support service for all things Rainbow, including a drop-in center on a Monday night, an online resource and reference point for support, advocacy, and connection. She has volunteered previously for Rainbow Youth and worked for Outline NZ, both Rainbow services. Chloe has many mentors in the rainbow community, which is where she gain s her knowledge from as well as the rainbow people we work with.
