A new way to process meat has recently become possible in New Zealand. Mobile abattoirs. Much like traditional ‘Home Kill’ providers, animals are processed on-farm, but unlike Home Kill, the meat can be sold to the public. This creates the opportunity to develop a meat processing capability on Great Barrier Island.
At the Off the Grid Festival, Dr. Logan Wait, founder of knowyourfood.nz, will introduce the new possibilities, and canvas interest from local farmers and community.
