Event description
Join us to hear about Samsø island in Denmark and how it transformed itself

About this event

Samsø is a small, blustery island of 4000 people nestled in Denmark’s Kattegat Strait. In 1997 the Danish government put out a challenge to 5 of the country’s populated islands to reduce their carbon footprint and increase production of renewable energy. The Municipality of Samsö won the contest and took on a transition which engaged the community and has produced an impressive system of sustainable power: wind turbines, district heating plants, rapeseed oil tractors and solar panels.

We are lucky enough to have Søren Hermansen, Director of the Energy Academy and one of the driving forces behind the transition of the island, join us from Denmark to talk about Samsø, it's journey and it's plans for the future.

This is a Q&A discussion session and we welcome people to join us at Barrier Social Club to listen to Soren and be part of the discussion - island to island.
