About this event

To: SBC Council Members and Liaison Delegates and Climate Leaders Coalition CEOs and Sustainability Managers

This stage of the political cycle gives us a significant opportunity to influence our transition to a zero carbon New Zealand.

SBC and CLC are working together to present a collective view to the incoming Government on priority climate action recommendations. This includes prioritised policies and projects that would qualify for the $12b stimulus package.

We know that what we ask of Government needs to be specific. SBC is working with consultants Sapere and DETA to draw up a long list of policy and project options, along with the rationale on what should be prioritised.

Our timeline is that we will then test this with you at an online workshop on Monday 7th September. We will then provide a report at a follow up workshop on Tuesday 22nd September, where we will agree our recommendations. The final report will be completed by Monday 5th October.

A critical element of this work is to capture members’ views on policies that should be promoted to advance decarbonisation. It is also important that the consultants can identify projects that members have undertaken that will contribute to economic growth and decarbonisation goals. The actions set out below include a request for work you have done on what your sector needs to assist decarbonisation as well as participation in two workshops to be held during the project.

Two workshops will be held and you are welcome to attend one or both. They will run for two hours and will involve a mix on plenary discussion and breakout rooms. The recordings from the sessions will be available on request so you have the opportunity to be informed and feedback.

Workshop 1: to gather feedback on the long list of policy options, along with the rationale on what should be prioritised.

Monday 7 September, 10am-12pm

Workshop 2: follow up workshop to discuss the report and capture members' views on policies that should be promoted to advance decarbonisation.

Tuesday 22 September, 10am-12pm

Links to the workshops will be sent out closer to the date.
