About this event

Wrights Hill Fortress was built in the 1940s as a long-range coastal battery to protect Wellington city and its surrounds from possible enemy attack and invasion from the Pacific in World War Two.

The Fortress has been restored and protected by the Restoration Society of Wellington and one of their knowledgable members will take the Explorer's Club on a tour of this amazing part of Wellington's history.

The tour will take between 1.5 - 2 hours so participants will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and are advised to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear.

The tour is through a network of safe and well-lit tunnels but please take this into consideration before booking tickets for children for whom this enclosed space could be a problem.

It is important to note that there are no toilets on the tour so it will be important to go before you arrive!!

This will be a fascinating, historical tour that will be sure to interest lots of our Explorers. See their website for more information https://wrightshillfortress.org.nz/

Organised by

Wellington Explorers Club for gifted children.
