You can help save them!
Our iconic braided rivers are home to many threatened native birds. This FREE course during Conservation Week is open to everyone and includes lunch, morning and afternoon teas. Led by John Dowding, arguably New Zealand’s’ foremost practical shorebird expert, the course has been hugely popular in the past. Participants have come from regional and district councils, the Department of Conservation, Canterbury Water Zone Committees, commercial and recreational river users, and members of the public interested in braided rivers and their incredible birdlife.
You might also like to attend one of our FREE trapping workshops in October at Rangiora and Geraldine.

Braided rivers are the only ecosystem to have its own targets in the Canterbury Water Management Strategy. One target is to implement actions to correct the decline in useable braided river bird habitat. This course has been designed to give you the information you need to help fulfil this target.
