Zero energy buildings by 2050. What will this look like, and how do we get there?

Join some of New Zealand’s leading thinkers on this subject, as they explore how we will get our new and existing buildings to zero carbon and what it means for the engineering, architectural, building professions and supply chain.

Come along to this free event to understand the technologies, the regulatory drivers, the impact of investors and how that is going to change homes and buildings to a better future for New Zealanders.

The panellists:

Representing Engineers is Ben Masters, Beca – Associate - Building Services. With over 15 years’ experience working in New Zealand and the UK specialising in Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD), Ben plays a lead role in Beca's green building projects.

Representing Building Owners is Anna Palairet, Air New Zealand - General Manager of Property and Infrastructure at Air New Zealand. Anna is an experienced business leader with responsibilities for centralised business portfolios and areas of influence of up to $750m p.a.

Representing Real Estate is Lloyd Budd, Bayleys - Director - Commercial, Retail & Operations. Lloyd has over 15 years of Real Estate experience on a global scale. His roles include leading strategic innovation initiatives for Lendlease (Australia) and large scale mixed-use projects for Majid Al Futtaim Properties (Middle East).

Representing Architects is Christina van Bohemen – Director Sills van Bohemen Architects FNZIA (Registered Architect).Having practised architecture since 1996 and establishing her own practice in 2001 she is the he current President of the NZIA. Christina enjoys being involved in the architectural community she was on the Auckland Council Urban Design Panel 2011-2017, and was also on the NZ Registered Architects Board.

Representing the Advocates is Sidd Mehta, Generation Zero.

Sidd works as a core-team campaigner for Generation Zero and the Zero Carbon Act Campaign. He began his involvement with Generation Zero in Auckland working on campaigns for better transport while he was studying at the University of Auckland. His background is in health economics and environmental health, which fostered his keen interest in addressing issues at the intersection of health, environment and justice. Sidd also works for Auckland Regional Public Health Service, as a Public Health Advisor in Built Environments

Representing the Building and Property Sector is Andrew Eagles - NZGBC CEO. Andrew joined the New Zealand Green Building Council in September 2016 as Chief Executive. Andrew is a qualified economist with more than fourteen years’ experience in the built environment. Working for consultancies, associations, government and built environment charities, he has a wealth of knowledge in housing, market mechanism, advocacy and the construction supply chain.

The panel will be hosted and chaired by Patrick Reynolds:

Patrick Reynolds is an Auckland based photographer and urbanist. Patrick is the nation’s leading photographer of the built environment. His architectural work can be seen in most leading publications both nationally and internationally. He has lead Auckland specific Urban Design studio courses at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland. In 2013 he received a President’s Award from the NZ Institute of Architects for his contributions to the fields of architecture and urban design. He is a committee member of Urban Auckland and deputy chair of Greater Auckland, two influential civil society groups dedicated to improving the urban realm.
