About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Iwi/Māori play an important role in emissions reduction in Aotearoa New Zealand. They provide leadership in reducing emissions in communities and sectors across Aotearoa New Zealand. Māori in the haukainga are often disproportionally impacted by the impacts of policy and climate change.

Join us for a discussion on our latest emissions reduction monitoring report and what this means for Māori. You will hear from the report authors, technical staff, and our principal advisor Māori economy who has a tono for pakihi Māori: please join our zui. We are keen to build relationships with Pakihi Māori who are interested in emissions monitoring – or any of our statutory mahi – so that we can hear your insights and experiences and better reflect them in next year's report.

Our rōpū will provide a high-level overview of the Commission’s monitoring role, our findings, and our recommendation to the Government.

Following presentations there will be an opportunity for attendees to have a kōrero, ask questions and share ideas on how the Commission can collaborate with Māori build its approach into the future.

We are also hosting a general webinar on the report. Read more and register here: Webinar: 2025 emissions reduction monitoring report

About these reports

These reports provide an evidence-based, impartial view of whether the country is on course to reach its goals of reducing and removing greenhouse gas emissions.

They provide insights into the progress made, challenges experienced, and opportunities and risks that need to be considered.

The reports are annual, so they provide a series of snapshots that build a picture over time of how the country is tracking.

The report is available on our website, alongside supporting plain language summaries and graphs showing our key findings, at: climatecommission.govt.nz/erm-2025
