Bulk create promotional codes to your event

When you need to create a large amount of promotional codes, use Eventbrite’s tool to upload a file instead of creating them individually. This is helpful if you need to give out personalized codes or use a voucher system (like Groupon). First put the codes into a CSV or TXT file. Then, upload it to Eventbrite by going to Promo codes (under Tickets). Select More options, then choose Upload promo code CSV. Bulk created codes have the same settings for each code. If you need different types of codes, upload them in separate files.

In this article

  • 1. Create a file of your codes.
  • 2. Go to your event dashboard.
  • 3. Go to “Promo codes” (under “Tickets”).
  • 4. Select “Upload code CSV”.
  • 5. Click “Import codes” or drag and drop your file.
  • 6. Set limits for your code.
  • 7. Optional: Use your code to reveal hidden ticket types.
  • 8. Set a discount amount.
  • 9. Choose which tickets to apply the codes to.
  • 10. Save your changes.
  • 11. Delete, update, or share existing codes.

1. Create a file of your codes.

Using an outside program (like Microsoft Excel or Google sheets), create a file of your codes. Your file should:

  • Be plain text (TXT or CSV format)

  • Be a single column with each code on a separate line

  • Have no spaces, apostrophes, or non-alphanumeric characters (except "-", "_", "(", ")", "/", "\", "+", "@", and ".")

  • Have no more than 500 codes per file

  • Have no more than 256 characters per code

All codes will have the same settings. If you need to create different types of codes (like codes that grant 1 ticket and codes that grant 2 tickets), create separate files.

2. Go to your event dashboard.

Go to Manage events in your account. Then select your event.

3. Go to “Promo codes” (under “Tickets”).

4. Select “Upload code CSV”.

5. Click “Import codes” or drag and drop your file.

6. Set limits for your code.

There are two ways to limit the use of each code:

  • Change the Ticket limit. This voids the code after it’s used on a certain amount of tickets.

  • Set an expiration date. These codes won’t be valid after the date you set.

Otherwise, every code is usable as long as tickets are available.

7. Optional: Use your code to reveal hidden ticket types.

If you have hidden tickets you want these codes to reveal, turn on “Reveal hidden tickets during checkout”.

To hide a ticket type:

  1. Go to Tickets.

  2. Click the name of your ticket type.

  3. Click Advanced settings.

  4. Change the visibility to Hidden.

8. Set a discount amount.

Discount tickets by a percentage of the ticket price or by a set amount. If you want the codes to grant free admission, set the discount amount to 100% or have the codes reveal a hidden, free ticket type.

For codes that reveal hidden tickets, this step is optional.

9. Choose which tickets to apply the codes to.

If you only want the codes to only apply to certain tickets:

  1. Choose the option for specific tickets.

  2. Click Select.

  3. Tick the box next to your desired ticket types.

  4. Click Done.

10. Save your changes.

11. Delete, update, or share existing codes.

Click the three-dots next to an individual code. From there:

  • Click Edit to change the code.

  • Click Delete to remove this code. This option is only available on unused codes.

  • Click Share code URL to get a sharable link. This link automatically applies the code during checkout.

To bulk delete unused codes:

  1. Click More options.

  2. Click Delete unused codes.

  3. Choose the type of codes you want to delete.

  4. Click Delete.
