Patricia Young
Patricia Young, born in Oregon, has a life-long interest in art. She has been drawing and painting since childhood and first painted with oil paints at age eight, influenced by her mother, who often painted with oils. Affirmed and encouraged by her family, friends, teachers, and peers while growing up she received positive feedback whenever she created art. It’s always been a passion that she cannot deny.
Patricia studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at the University of Oregon/Eugene, and Art Education at Western Oregon University/Monmouth, where she earned a bachelors degree in Art Education. She continued to study art and design, taking courses at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and Chemeketa Community College-Salem, and other artist workshops and seminars through the years.
Patricia has been showing and selling her artwork for many years and is active in the local art community.
"I enjoy painting with oil paints, acrylics, and watercolors, respecting each medium for its unique qualities. Painting en plein air is my favorite way to paint, but I also paint in my studio from my own photo references." Her painting style is traditionally influenced by her love of Impressionism, focusing on color and light. More recently she is exploring the use of palette knife painting which has its challenges but also frees her from focussing on details.
