Deep South, Resilience & Our Land and Water NSC's

Over the past few years, the Deep South Challenge, Resilience to Nature's Challenges and Our Land and Water National Science Challenges, along with several other NZ science programmes, have funded research projects that focus on drought and its impacts.

Together we are co-creating a rolling symposium focusing on Drought and its impacts on the Primary Sector.

About us:

Toitū te Whenua, Toiora te Wai

The Our Land and Water National Science Challenge aims to preserve the most fundamental treasures of our country – our land, water and associated ecosystems – while producing value from those same treasures. Our objective, set by Government, is to enhance the production and productivity of New Zealand’s primary sector, while maintaining and improving the quality of the country’s land and water for future generations. Our Land and Water is hosted by AgResearch.

Accelerating Aotearoa New Zealand’s resilience to natural hazards through innovative, collaborative research.

The Resilience to Nature's Challenges national science challenge brings together deep partnerships, transformative research and mātauranga Māori to provide the new knowledge, tools and ways of working that will help Aotearoa New Zealand accelerate resilience to ever-changing natural hazards and actively manage disaster risk. The Resilience Challenge is hosted by GNS Science

The Deep South Challenge - Changing with our climate

The Deep South Challenge's mission is to enable New Zealanders to adapt, manage risk and thrive in a changing climate. To help us achieve this mission, we also work towards our objective (set by Cabinet), which is to understand the role of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean in determining our climate and our future environment. The Deep South Challenge is hosted by NIWA
