Ethnic Rainbow Community

We understand that many students and staff from ethnic backgrounds come from communities where acceptance and safety are not always guaranteed. This can make some queer spaces feel unwelcoming and intimidating. At the University of Auckland, it’s clear that a designated space to address this issue has been essential from the very beginning.

Ethnic Rainbow Community aims to fill this gap by co-creating an environment that recognises the unique challenges faced by UOA’s ethnic rainbow whānau. What sets us apart is our focus on the intersection of ethnicity and queerness. Through collaborative events, safe social gatherings, and access to relevant resources, we hope to bring our community a space where everyone feels comfortable, respected, and valued.
