BirdCare Aotearoa

BirdCare Aotearoa provides professional care and rehabilitation for sick, injured and orphaned wild birds.

Our mission is to care about, and care for, all wild birds. We do this through advocacy, education, and care.

Our vision is to establish BirdCare Aotearoa as a National Centre of Excellence in wildlife rehabilitation.

We pride ourselves on being pro-active, positive, energetic, and inclusive.

Based in Green Bay, Auckland, BirdCare Aotearoa is the largest bird rehabilitation facility in Aotearoa by the sheer volume of birds who come through our doors. In 2020, we cared for more than 6,000 birds.

While many of our patients are natives, no wild bird in need is turned away from our centre. We accept and care for native and non-native species, including orphaned chicks and victims of cat attacks, road accidents, pollution, human cruelty, and adverse weather.

Education and advocacy are also an important part of our mission as we seek to share knowledge with other professionals, volunteers, and the wider community. We do this through events and workshops, including a one-day intensive Frontline Emergency Training in which participants learn how to respond safely and humanely to wildlife emergencies and develop skills to care for wildlife in need.

We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of our wonderful supporters. Every dollar donated helps us to provide medical care to the thousands of birds brought to our hospital every year. With your generous support, we give wild birds a second chance at life.
