Society of Wildlife Artists
The Society of Wildlife Artists was founded in 1964 by a group of artists that included Keith Shackleton, Peter Scott and Robert Gillmor, who also designed the zebra logo. The SWLA later became part of the Federation of British Artists, a group of nine national art societies based at London’s prestigious Mall Galleries where the annual open exhibition is held. The SWLA is a registered charity that seeks to generate appreciation and delight in the natural world through all forms of fine art inspired by wildlife. The Society has a strong emphasis upon field-based work that has a conservation message and offers opportunities for young and upcoming artists to develop their skills in wildlife art through its bursaries, seabird drawing courses and other events.
