St George's Hospital Fetal Monitoring Group
The St George’s Fetal Monitoring Group, comprised of leading obstetricians and senior midwives, has a clear purpose: to raise maternity care standards, strengthen clinical decision-making, and improve outcomes.
In response to national safety priorities and the increasing complexity of intrapartum care, the group runs practical workshops for midwives and obstetricians with foundational knowledge and clinical experience. The workshop blends deep knowledge of fetal and maternal physiology with hands-on clinical application. Attendees gain clear strategies for interpreting CTGs, linking fetal responses to intrapartum risk, and making confident, evidence-based decisions, even in ambiguous situations. Through case reviews, interactive group work, and peer collaboration, participants strengthen their technical skills and clinical confidence.
The course is led by internationally respected obstetrician and educator Austin Ugwumadu, and midwifery leaders in fetal monitoring Virginia Whelehan, Abigail Wenham, and Federica Gianstefani. Together, they bring decades of frontline experience, research, clinical audit and leadership, and a commitment to improving maternity care.
