Te Raranga

Te Raranga is an informal organisation that grew organically following the Feb 2011 Christchurch earthquake.  It has no authority to act on behalf of any church body, but it has proven itself to be an organisation that can act as a catalyst for discussion around key topics that potentially have an impact across church denominations and groups.  It looks to increase the value of these discussions by promoting learning, sharing of knowledge, and to facilitate inter-church working where there is interest.   

The Church has always been at the forefront of social action, and the leadership of Te Raranga have been interested in how the Church should engage with the current rise in SE.  In July Te Raranga sponsored a workshop looking at “Exploring the opportunity social enterprise offers the Church”.  The attendance, participation and the output from the participants, informed the leadership of Te Raranga that this was an area worth pursuing further and so they started the Social Enterprise Initiative.

Through this initiative, Te Raranga hopes that the wider Church will be better informed of the context of SE within Christian ministry, and in addition looks to promote through dialogue, learning, and sharing of knowledge and facilities the effective engagement by churches in SE.
