Third World Newsreel and the Doc Forum at CCNY

Third World Newsreel (TWN) has advanced movement storytelling and media arts for cultural and social justice since 1968. We champion the self-representation of historically marginalized communities—including Black, Latine, Indigenous, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, North African, Mixed/Multiracial, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ individuals—through diverse genres and forms of media, such as documentary, experimental, and fiction. Our aim is to facilitate their efforts to create, engage, and amplify their stories, propelling audiences to action. Our seminars and workshops have trained thousands of BIPOC filmmakers over 5 decades. We are supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Color Congress, the Golden Globe Foundation, the Peace Development Fund, the Kolibri Foundation and individual donors. We are pleased to also acknowledge the support of the NY Community Trust and Humanities New York. www.twn org

The Documentary Forum at CCNY is dedicated to supporting the creation, exhibition, and study of documentary film, journalism, and non-fiction visual story-telling through multi-platform media, and building a bridge between the college’s media-making community, the Harlem community in which it resides, and a growing international online audience.  The Forum is supported by The Division of Humanities and the Arts, Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, Simon Rifkind Center for the Humanities, and the Martin and Toni Sosnoff Fund for Excellence in the Arts. www. documentaryforum.org
