Event description
Help us tackle the issue of ocean litter, contribute to a national citizen science project, and take action for our local wildlife.

About this Event

Join the education team at the Royal Albatross Centre to tackle the issue of ocean litter. We will carry out a marine debris survey at Pilots Beach (adjacent to the Royal Albatross Centre), contribute to a national citizen science project, and take action for our local wildlife. In addition to collecting rubbish, we will investigate the impact of different types of litter on seabirds and marine mammals and engage in an art project to highlight the issue. The discussion will centre around the source of the rubbish, and how we can be part of the solution.

Team up this programme with a Local’s Half Price Albatross Tour (https://albatross.org.nz) or Blue Penguin Tour (https://albatross.org.nz/otago-peninsula-tours/little-blue-penguin-viewing/). And the Albatross Cafe is open for a meal.

To learn more check out the Royal Albatross Centre’s Education programme (https://albatross.org.nz/education/) and Sustainable Coastline’s Litter Intelligence Project (http://litterintelligence.org).

This event will be partially run outdoors, no matter what the weather. Please wear a warm wind / waterproof jacket, sturdy footwear and a woolly hat. Garden gloves will be supplied (or bring your own) for sorting through the rubbish.

All attendees over 4 years require a ticket for this event.
