Workshop focus:The focus of this workshop will be on mild traumatic brain injuries in women and the assessment of these within the scope of intimate partner violence. Doug, the presenter, will also talk about the long term possible effects from mild traumatic brain injuries for women and how to manage these cases.The session aims to highlight serious hidden injuries, which can have significant impacts on women throughout their lives. Mild traumatic brain injuries in women is a scarcely researched area, which requires further insight and attention, and is consequently an area of study Doug is interested in.This workshop is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the complex ways in which intimate partner violence can impact brain health, which can lead to compounding health and social complications for victim/survivors.About the speaker:Doug King is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Emergency) at the Hutt Valley District Health Board. Doug has completed three PhDs in injury epidemiology, women&#x27;s rugby and head impact biomechanics and is an adjunct Research Fellow at Durham University (England) and the University of New England (Australia). Doug&#x27;s research interests are sports injuries and head injuries / concussion and he has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. Doug actively works in the Emergency Department screening for intimate partner violence, strangulation and head injuries.
