Transcribing of Kōkako (Callaeas cinerea wilsoni) Dialect
Nataalia Lunson will be sharing her 2016 pre graduate presentation that led her into working for the Department of Conservation as a community ranger. Her study involved He waiata o ngā kōkako o kaharoa, transcribing of Kōkako (Callaeas cinerea wilsoni) dialect at Kaharoa into performance notation. It is an enquiry study on valuing the relationship between cultural anthropology and ornithology. Based on the unique call of Kokako, it touches on the interpretation of birdcalls into music notation and indigenous practices for the purposes of conservation advocacy.
