Art & Thinking: a collective questioning workshop
In this workshop, we slow down our usual way of moving through exhibitions and stay with a single artwork for an extended time.
The workshop takes place as part of the More Than Human exhibition organised by Helsinki International Artist Association.
What will we do
Through facilitated dialogue inspired by Socratic questioning, participants are invited to notice what happens when attention is given time: how perceptions shift, how associations arise, and how meaning forms through looking, speaking, and listening.
Rather than analysing the artwork, we practise staying with what we see, sense, and think as it unfolds. Questions are used not to find the “right” interpretation, but to deepen awareness of how we relate to the artwork, to one another, and to the world it opens.
Who is this workshop for
The workshop is for anyone interested in slowing down, thinking together, and experimenting with how we engage with art. No prior knowledge in philosophy or art is required.
Facilitators
The session is facilitated by Elizaveta Bomash, philosophical practitioner and researcher with a background in arts and culture. Her work centres on Socratic questioning as a way to support shared reflection and clarity of thought.
Alex Markwith, contemporary visual artist, will offer a short artistic prompt at the beginning of the session to help activate perception and focus attention.
