Learn how to make your own reusable beeswax wraps and make three to bring home!

About this Event

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Did you know beeswax wraps are versatile, plastic-free, reusable, and compostable?? They tick all the boxes for an ocean lover or eco warrior looking to reduce their impact on the environment!

Wanted to make your own wax wraps but haven’t had the supplies or the know how? Join me for a relaxed afternoon workshop providing you with the chance to learn how to make your own AND add three beautiful wraps to your collection or zero-waste kit!

Not only will I walk you through making your own wax wraps, but at the start I’ll talk about other ways you can reduce your impact on the environment with simple swaps in the kitchen and in other parts of your home.

This is the opportunity to take your time and enjoy - socialize and participate - in a relaxed activity on your Sunday afternoon. There will be some zero waste snacks and drinks made available (included in the workshop price)!

This gathering is going to be held at the ideal venue for ocean lovers! Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC), is situated on the edge of Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve. The location is perfect for a paddle, swim or walk on the beach before or after the workshop - and the premises are perfect for socializing inside or outside - rain or shine. MERC is kindly offering the venue for use at no cost, supporting this sharing of eco-friendly knowledge and expertise to others in the community.

COST

The average large beeswax wrap costs $15 but I am offering you the opportunity to make 3 of your own for the price of 2!

$30 per person if you would like to choose from a selection of provided 100% cotton fabrics.

OR there’s a BYO fabric price: $25 per person to make 3 large wraps with fabric squares up to 30x30 cm (limited by baking sheet size)

Ideally you should use 100% cotton to make these because at the end of their useable life they can be composted, so if you would like to BYO, bring along cotton fabrics so you can compost your wrap!

Details on how to pay will be sent out closer to the event date.

PLEASE RSVP

Numbers are limited so book your spot soon! I want everyone to be able to make their wraps in a reasonable amount of time but also want to include as many people as possible.

OTHER INFO

I endeavor to make this workshop as sustainable as possible. For your information, the beeswax for this workshop is purchased from a family-run business based in beautiful Northland, who ship their wax plastic free! Their rendered and filtered cappings wax blocks use the byproducts of local Auckland and Northland bees. This means the wax is a by-product of the honey extraction process and every honey season there is only a limited supply available. No bees are being exploited for this product. See Less
