Beginner Fishing Workshop

Beginner Fishing Workshop

Overview

Join me for a fishing workshop to learn some foundational skills and knowledge to begin catching fish from the Canterbury shoreline!!

Hey team!
Come and join me for a family-friendly fishing workshop designed especially for complete beginners. My goal is to give you the confidence to take the whānau out fishing — to know how to set up, how to attract a fish, and what to do when you finally catch one!

What to Expect
13.30–15:30pm at The Bridge Hub community centre (The Hall)

Workshop Start:
We’ll begin at 13:30pm sharp in the hall at the Bridge Hub.
Your host, Chris, will guide you through essential topics such as:

  • Surf and beach safety
  • Basic fishing gear and tackle
  • Bait selection
  • Common local fish species and how to target them

We’ll then move into a hands-on knot-tying and rig-making session, and you’ll get to keep the rigs you create for your next fishing trip!

Please note: This event does not require fishing rods, as it is not an actual fishing session. Casting tuition and full fishing sessions will be available in the coming months.

What to Bring

  • A non-alcoholic drink (water bottles will be provided)
  • Eagerness to learn
  • Good vibes!

Age & Ticket Requirements

  • All participants must be 6 years or older and must have a ticket.
  • Participants under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (18+).
  • Guardians with younger siblings are welcome to attend the event, but only ticket holders can take part in the knot-tying and rig-making activities to ensure we have enough materials for everyone

Any cancelations or postponments will be communicated via email.
