BioBlitz is a scientific race against time to count as many different species as we can in a 24-hour period. The opening by Ruud Kleinpaste the well-known “Bugman” will mark the start of an exciting 24hrs of exploration and discovery. Come and join scientists from Lincoln University, Landcare Research, Department of Conservation and more on a hunt for anything that swims, flies, grows, crawls and hides!
Throughout the 24- hours you can join in on many activities from moth catching to electric-fishing, attend talks on different topics and take part in interactive displays.
The most exciting part of this event is that everyone will have the chance to go on walks with experts in different fields to actually find and identify the myriad of life forms that are to be found along our section of river and its surrounds. This means that the families who come will actually be “doing” the science and collecting the information that will be used in the research.
We will be using “Nature Watch” to record our discoveries and everyone is advised to download the app ‘iNaturalist’ before coming to the event if they have a mobile device on which to do this. Here's the link to the Nature Watch website to find out more and download the app http://naturewatch.org.nz/
For all ages 1 to 100!
