Computational phylogenetics using BEAST2

The Centre for Computational Evolution brings together researchers who share an interest in developing software tools and mathematical models for understanding evolution and molecular ecology from genes to genomes. This approach spans fields as diverse as linguistics, ecology, the origin of life and epidemiology.

Bayesian computational methods have transformed the study of evolutionary processes, yielding deep quantitative insights into the ancestral histories of genes, populations and species.  This workshop will be composed of two parts, the first of which will bring participants up to speed on the statistical theory behind these methods.  The second part will be a tutorial during which participants will learn to infer phylogenetic trees and ancestral population dynamics from real genetic data using the BEAST 2 software package (<A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://beast2.org/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.beast2.org</A>)
The workshop will be presented by Dr Tim Vaughan from the Centre for Computational Evolution, University of Auckland (<A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.compevol.auckland.ac.nz" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.compevol.auckland.ac.nz</A>).
Please note: You will need to bring a laptop for the tutorial. Instructions to download the BEAST2 software package will be sent prior to the workshop.
