Event description
Connected Learning Series (Project Based and Integrated Learning)

About this event

The Connected Learning Series supports teachers in project based and integrated learning for Wharekura (Year 9-13). The series is presented by Maurie Abraham and Di Cavallo (Principal and Deputy Principal of Hobsonville Point Secondary School respectively) who are truly experienced in this field.

The two 2-day wānanga series will accommodate new kaiako to Connected Learning and those who are more advanced. Overall, the group will start and end together but essentially split into foundation and master class. The wānanga caters to those who have attended one or two sessions previously as well as those new to connected learning. To gain maximum value for the kura, we ask that kaiako attend in a cluster of 2-3 and must attend both wānanga.

There is a cost to attend the series which goes towards two 2-day intensive training including accommodation, meals and venue. It is a great opportunity for our kaiako to access experts in the connected learning space. Maurie and Di are willing to share and collaborate on tangible working strategies set out by you, to use within your kura. It will challenge and push your thinking outside of the box.

Cost to cover 4 days intensive training is $200+gst per person. Registrations open Monday 12th April and close Monday 3rd May.

20-21 May 2021, Waikato Region: Part 1 of the series is about what ‘Connected Learning’ is and strategies to apply this way of teaching and learning. This is the nuts and bolts of connected learning and will give you the confidence to explore this method with your students. The outcome of the series provides an opportunity to pitch, share and develop structures and strategies that can be used in kura. You will then trial these within the classroom and share your findings in August. Part 1 of the series will be held at the Sir Don Rowlands Centre in Cambridge on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st of May (2-day wānanga).

26-27 August 2021, Auckland Region: Part 2 of the series is an opportunity to experience first-hand and observe ‘Connected Learning’ in action, speak with students and reflect on how some of the teachings can be practised in kura. There will be a chance to share findings from Part 1, and polish plans with the support of Maurie and Di. Part 2 will take place at Hobsonville Point Secondary School in Auckland on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th of August (2-day wānanga).

* Attendees must commit to attend the complete series before registering . No refunds will be given for non-attendance

**Please ensure you have been approved to attend the series by your Tumuaki
