Cultural capabilty wānanga for effective engagement with Māori landowners and understanding of ownership dynamics and governance
About this event
The wānanga will be hosted on local marae to give advisers an opportunity to immerse themselves in Te Ao Māori and hui protocol. The wānanga will cover three core themes:
- Cultural capability for effective engagement with Māori landowners including gaining an understanding of Te Ao Māori concepts and worldviews, Tikanga Māori values and practices, basic Te Reo and how to apply these in the workplace.
- Māori land ownership dynamics and governance including a brief history of Māori land and key legislation i.e., Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Ture Whenua Māori Acts and the establishment of trusts and incorporations to manage and govern lands.
- Case-studies to examine and unpack how Trusts and Incorporations operate including examples from local whenua.
