DECODING NORTH KOREA SINCE THE SUMMITS: A PANEL DISCUSSION
Event Information
Description
A Panel Discussion with three international experts
US President Donald Trump has now met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un three times. Are we any closer to denuclearization? Are we any further away from nuclear war? How would we know in either case?
A panel of international experts, hosted by the Centre for Strategic Studies, will answer these questions and demystify the spectacle of North Korea diplomacy. Jean Lee (Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars), a former journalist who opened the first ever Pyongyang bureau for the Associated Press, will tell us what we can learn from North Korean state media and reading between the lines. Dr. Robert Kelly, (Pusan National University), will explain the current state-of-play by drawing on general insights from international relations and security studies. And Dr. Van Jackson (VUW and CSS) will moderate, drawing out the extent to which "Pyongyangology" and international theory tell similar stories about North Korea.
