Guided snorkelling groups
Beginners Group: 10.00am - 11.30pm
Intermediate/Advanced Group: 11.30pm - 1.00pm
Beginners Group: 1.30pm - 3.00pm

Join Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre (MERC) on their giant paddle boards and explore the reef from above the water.
Giant Paddle Board groups (limited space)
Group A: 10.00am - 11.30pm
Group B: 11.30pm - 1.00pm
Group C: 1.30pm - 3.00pm
⛱ On land
Join UoA Marine Science Society and Mountains to Sea Conservaiton Trust in beach cleaning and rock pooling activites. We will also have information stalls and beach games from local community groups like Pupuke Birdsong Project.
Beach clean: 10am - 11.30am
Guided rock pooling: 11.30am - 1.00pm
Information stalls: 10am - 3.00pm

🎟 Registrations
We recommend you to pre register for the snorkelling and giant paddle board activities as places will be limited for these activities. You will need to arrive 15 mins prior to your time slot and complete a full registration form at the event tent.
However please note even if it says sold out on any of the spots we do often accept walk ins on the day as we commonly have people drop out last minute so there is a good chance we can get you in/on the water in some capacity. There may be a wait time depending on how busy we are and our volunteer numbers, please be kind on the day and bare with us as we try and get everyone out exploring the reef :)
Group definitions
Beginners group - First time snorkellers, non swimmers or low confidence swimmers welcome. Suitbale for 4 year olds and up, all children under 13 years must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
Intermediate/Advanced groups - This group is for people who have snorkelled at least once or twice before, and have moderate swimming ability or above. Suitable for 5 year olds and up, all children under all children under 13 years must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
Giant paddle boarding - All ability levels welcome, suitable for 5 year olds and up, all children all children under 13 years must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
Please note: We required all people participating in water based activities to be fluent in English or have a translator particiapting with them in/on the water.
🎒What to bring
- swimsuit and towel
- Plenty of drinking water
- Hat and sunblock
- Aqua shoes (or shoes you do not mind getting wet) for rock pooling
- Snorkelling gear (we will have plenty of gear to borrow for all sizes if you do not have your own, including fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuits) Please note full face masks are not permitted.
- Body board (this is useful when snorkelling as a beginner, if you do not have your own we have boards to borrow)
- Picnic lunch (optional but a great way to extend your day at Takapuna)
🌞 Weather call
We will make a final weather call the evening before the event via email, eventbrite and facebook. Please check these platforms to confirm the event is going ahead.
💰 Donations
Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust runs a series of free and subsidised events throughout the year - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.
📸 Photo permissions
Photos and videos will be taken throughout the event and shared to participants via email and social media channels. If you do not wish your photo to be taken please let the event tent know and they will give you a no photo lanyard.
