EMBROIDERY WITH JO DIXEY

Embroidery is back, and Etsy offers great kits far from our Grand-Mother’s designs. But before getting on the new trend of Zenbroidery, learn with Jo Dixey how to stitch.
During this weekend of embroidery, students will be introduced to a collection of basic embroidery stitches and learn how to use them within a design. The first day will be spent working on a sampler, learning how to control the needle and create beautiful stitches.
The second day students will start a small embroidered picture where they will learn how to choose which stitches to use and how to fit those stitches into space.

TWO DAY COURSE: SATURDAY 14 & SUNDAY 15 OCTOBER FROM 10AM TO 4.30PM.

Includes 1/2 hour lunch break - BYO
ENROLMENT NOW OPEN UNTIL 8 OCTOBER

About Jo Dixey

Jo Dixey is a freelance embroiderer, stitch artist and author of the embroidery book “Stitch People”. She teaches small groups a variety of embroidery and fabric techniques as well as design based workshops. She works on commissions which have included large altar cloths, University banners and work for the fashion industry. She also repairs old embroideries and holds exhibitions of her work. The work she does for exhibition ranges from large wall hung quilts to fine embroideries. These pieces are mostly based on the human form and often comment on issues she has with modern life!
Jo trained for 3 years at the Royal School of Needlework, followed by City and Guilds creative embroidery Parts 1 and 2. She worked for the Embroiderers Guild in the UK for a year promoting embroidery around the country. Jo moved to New Zealand in 2000 and now lives in Helensville.
