Description

Staff from private sector IT companies, in particular those delivering web design and development services, are invited to attend this free presentation by the Department of Internal Affairs on web accessibility.

This presentation is also being held in Wellington on Thursday 5 May 2016.

The presentation is divided into two 1hr sessions. The first session is a general introduction to web accessibility, the what and why. It will answer questions such as:

  • What is web accessibility?
  • How do people with disabilities browse the web?
  • Why is it important?
  • What’s required?

The second session discusses web technologies, how they work, and what web teams can do to enable access for people with disabilities. Specific topics include:

  • HTML, browsers, accessibility APIs, assistive technologies
  • WCAG 2.0
  • WAI-ARIA
  • Accessibility for web and native apps
  • Embedding accessibility in your work
