Hear Maz's story and how she developed her passion for harakeke. Maz will talk about the history of the plant, different types of harakeke, the use of karakia and other tikanga (practices) around harakeke. Find out what purposes it served in pre-European times and its medicinal uses.
This workshop will also cover practical things such as how to dispose of unused flax/ old leaves, how to harvest, how to take care of flax plants and how to transplant them. Weather dependent - the event will conclude with a practical element of transplanting harakeke in Staveley forest.
