Artist, jeweller and weaver Matthew McIntyre-Wilson took a two hour workshop led by Margery Blackman in 2012, the influence of which continues to impact on his work. Blackman’s influence and her contribution to the Aotearoa New Zealand weaving community is immense. Join Matthew McIntyre-Wilson as he shares how Blackman’s knowledge and sharing has made a great contribution to his personal practice and his understanding of tāniko.

Margery Blackman: Weaving, Life surveys the life’s work of artist and textiles scholar Margery Blackman. It has been brought to The Dowse by curators Elle Loui August and Jane Groufsky with the support of Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Matthew McIntyre-Wilson has work in the Dowse Collection and has exhibited on numerous occasions, including Ka tū koe ki te whāriki (2020) which can be found alongside Nuku Tewhatewha.
