Our Hindi language courses focus on learning the Devanāgarī (देवनागरी) script, reading & writing, vocabulary & grammar, and conversation

About this Event

Our Introductory Hindi language class (Hindi 101) begins in Term 3 with a focus on learning the Devanāgarī (देवनागरी) script and basic conversation and vocabulary. Subsequent Terms reinforce both reading and writing, and focus on grammar, conversation and vocabulary. Our Term 3 course offereings also include Hindi 103 and Intermediate Hindi (201).   • Hindi 101: Introductory Hindi for Beginners (Thursdays 4:00-5:30pm begining 30 July, runs for 8 weeks
  • Hindi 103: Introductory Hindi for Continuers (Fridays 6:00-7:30pm begining 31 July, runs for 8 weeks
  • Hindi 201: Intermediate Hindi for Continuers (Fridays 4:00-5:30pm begining 31 July, runs for 8 weeks

Term 3 Introductory Hindi 101 classes began with learning the Devanāgarī (देवनागरी) script, writing and reading practice, and included basic introductory grammar and some conversation. Hindi 103 classes, and our Intermediate Hindi 201 course, continue with reading and writing practice, grammar, vocabulary, and conversation. Teens who already understand and speak Hindi, but who do not know how to read and write in Devanāgarī, may chose to enroll in the Hindi 101 course.

Our Term 3 Introductory Hindi 101 for Adults  class is specifically designed for adults (and older teens) who do not know how to read, write or speak the Hindi language, and who may wish to enroll in an afternoon class. Term 3 Introductory classes begin with learning the Devanāgarī (देवनागरी) script, writing and reading practice, and include basic introductory grammar and some conversation. Hindi 103 will continue with Devanāgarī (देवनागरी) script reading and writing practice, and will continue with introductory grammar, vocabulary, and conversation. Adults and older teens who already understand and speak Hindi, but who do not know how to read and write in Devanāgarī, may chose to enroll in the Term 1 course only. Introductory Hindi 101 for Adults is being offered this year on Friday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm. Term 1 classes begin on Friday 14 February 2020 and run for eight successive weeks, with the last class of the Term held on Friday 3 April 2020. Subsequent classes (Hindi 102, 103, and 104) will be held in the same time slot for the rest of the year.

Our 2020 Term 3 Introductory Hindi 103 for Adults and our Intermediate Hindi 201 courses are specifically designed for adults (and older teens) who have completed earlier courses as prerequisites, and who wish to continue their language learning. These class may also be suitable for new students who can already read and write in Devanāgrī, but who may have rudimentary Hindi grammar and vocabulary skills. Term 3 courses begin the last week in July 2020 and run for eight successive weeks, with the last class of the Term held on Friday 18 September 2020. Subsequent classes for continuing students will be held in the same time slots. 

There are both in-person and distance-learning options available. Those unable to attend in-person classes, or those living outside the Waikato region, can choose our live-streaming option via free Zoom software, or to watch the video-recorded sessions of our live-streamed classes at a more convenient time.

The course fees include all teaching materials. Individual notebooks for note taking are not provided. Students must bring their own notebooks and pens/pencils.
