Overview

Boost your confidence in assessing others with our workshop "Marking with Confidence: Strengthening Assessor Judgement"!

Welcome to Marking with Confidence: Strengthening Assessor Judgement (Online event)

About this workshop

This 2-hour online interactive session supports assessors working at Level 3 and above on the NZQCF to develop greater confidence and clarity in their marking practice.

You’ll explore how to make assessment judgements that are not only valid and consistent but also robust enough to stand up to moderation. This is a marking-focused session, but grounded in what moderators actually look for in post-assessment review.

This workshop is for you if you:

  • Assess learning outcomes, or workplace assessments (e.g., level 3 and above)
  • Want to build deeper understanding of what valid, sufficient, and consistent evidence looks like
  • Are preparing for moderation or mentoring others through it
  • Have had feedback on assessment decisions and want to feel more confident responding to it

You will leave with:

✅ Clear understanding of NZQA’s assessment principles

✅ Tools to make, record, and explain assessment decisions confidently

✅ Insight into what moderators look for (and common red flags)

✅ A practical link between marking and moderation

✅ A boost in confidence that your judgement aligns with quality expectations

✅ A certificate of participation (emailed after the session)

Led by Jane Elderkin, a Quality Assurance and Moderation specialist with 17+ years in the tertiary sector, the session blends assessment principles, hands-on judgement activities, and reflection on how quality assurance connects to everyday assessor decisions.
