Netsafe LIVE Sessions

Senior Leaders/Pastoral and e-Learning Leaders (1:30 - 3:00 pm).

Learning and Leading in a Changing Landscape – Approaches to developing online safety, digital citizenship, and wellbeing across the school.

Schools are increasingly challenged by the complexities of preparing young people for the digital world, providing safe digital environments for learning and teaching and the need to prepare students for the world they engage in right now, both offline and online.

This session will explore ways that leaders can engage areas of the school in initiatives and ways to develop safe practices, online citizenship, and wellbeing. We will look at the management of online incidents and the Harmful Digital Communications Act, unpack and use the Netsafe Schools Review Tool, and begin planning for next steps. Knowledge and information pertinent to leaders about our young people in NZ, sourced from Netsafe's research team, will be woven through the session.

Light refreshments from 1.00pm and the session will begin at 1:30pm.

Teachers and Learning Partners (3.30 - 5.00 pm)

Safe and Smart Online - Developing safe, confident, informed and responsible online citizens in the classroom context

One in four young people experience online challenges and whānau often look to their school for guidance.  As digital technology is a key part of many learning environments, schools play a pivotal role in helping young people develop the skills, knowledge, and values needed to help become citizens in a digital world.

This session will look at online challenges and opportunities students face, and discuss ways to develop ‘digital’ capabilities across the curriculum. We will unpack the Harmful Digital Communications Act, address how to respond to online incidents, identify familiar frameworks to inform classroom approaches, and a look at resources and tools to support you in class.

Light refreshments from 3:00pm and the session will begin at 3.30pm.

Parents and Whānau 6.30 - 7.30 pm

Powerful Partnerships – working together to support young people as they navigate the online world.

Online safety for parents and whānau is more important than ever. As young people and children begin to spend more time online, it’s important that parents help them build their knowledge of the online environment and develop emotional and social capabilities to help them make safe and responsible choices when they are online.

So, how do you get started? This session looks at how parents and whānau can support children and young people to navigate online opportunities, challenges and complexities.
