Event description
Restoring Identity: The importance of our own self care - Making time for yourself as a Parent

About this event

Restoring Identity: The importance of our own self care - Making time for yourself as a parent.

Raising children is an important job, and looking after yourself helps you do the job well. That's because looking after yourself physically, mentally and emotionally helps you give your children what they need to grow and thrive.

Looking after yourself involves looking after your relationships, your health and your wellbeing.

When you’re focused on looking after babies, children and teenagers it’s easy to forget or run out of time to look after these parts of your life. But looking after yourself is worth it – it’s good for you and good for your children.

This interactive one hour free workshop with Heather Watson - a Wellbeing Specialist & Counsellor, will provide a relaxed environment for you to hear about some tools you could potentially use to ensure that your own well-being is as much as a top priority as that of your family.

MORE ABOUT OUR FACILITATOR: HEATHER WATSON

Registered with NZAC - Dip Counselling

Kia ora. I am a Wellbeing Counsellor who provides face to face counselling services by appointment at my rooms in Rolleston. I use a person-centred approach as the foundation of my counselling.

A person-centred approach is where the person is placed at the centre of the service and treated as a person first. The focus is on the person and what they can do, not their condition or disability.

Support should focus on achieving a person's aspirations and be tailored to their needs and unique circumstances.

My specialist areas include working with individuals, adults and teens experiencing challenges relating to Grief, Anxiety, Depression, Gender, Sexuality, Parenting, Crisis Intervention and Life Transitions. My aim is to build a positive therapeutic relationship with each client and provide a safe, nurturing space that encourages a sense of trust and rapport.

Apart from five years of OE in the 90’s I have lived throughout Canterbury for the majority of my life. I now live in the Selwyn district with my husband. I am the mother of two adult daughters who live independently, with their cats.

Arriving home means I am energetically welcomed by my dog Boston, who loves going for rides in the car, walks and visiting the neighbour.

MY EXPERIENCE

Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, I worked for twenty years as a staff supporter for an Employee Assistance Provider, where I supported people experiencing many of life’s challenges. I have a sound background of working in the mental health care industry.

Being strongly connected in the community and a social services professional, I come with a Diploma in Counselling from ARA. (Was CPIT).
