TBM Thursdays
Event Information
About this event
TBM Thursdays are your chance to see our Tunnel Boring Machine, Dame Whina Cooper, as it is dismantled and to meet the experts who manage its construction and the construction of Midtown’s Aotea Station. By joining TBM Thursdays, you’ll be in to win great prizes from local businesses and a grand prize of a ‘behind the fences’ site tour of the Aotea Station construction site.
Each TBM Thursday, you’ll be able to take the TBM Trail and complete the CRL quiz for your chance to win. The TBM Trail will take you across the Aotea Construction precinct, starting at our Te Pūkaki Visitor Centre on the corner of Elliot Street and Victoria Street, and ending with a view of the underground Aotea Station on Mayoral Drive. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to stop in and support many local businesses offering great kai, superb services and enticing wares.
If you’re running out of ideas to fill the school holidays, add a visit to the city centre and TBM Thursdays to your list. We’ll have colouring competitions and exciting sights that will encourage young budding engineers.
TBM Thursdays will be your last chance to see the TBM from a distance before it returns to Mt Eden in late February, where it will begin its second underground journey in April 2022.
Book your tickets quickly as spaces are limited to 100 people per session. Vaccine passes and masks are mandatory.
