Elephant riding is great fun, so long as you hang on. This course is about anxiety, not elephants. It’s for people, not consumers.

About this event

Health • Mental health

Anxiety is viewed as like a small human rider trying to control a very large elephant, with only a loin cloth, a stick, and no plan.

Through a series of images by artist Helen Page, you will be taken through a slightly unserious exploration of how to approach your own (or your loved one's) anxiety as a process of cooperating with your subconscious - your elephant - rather than trying to control it. This approach to anxiety is for those who have found therapy and counselling to be less helpful than expected.

Your host, Andrew Salisbury, wrote Project CALM, an Acceptance Commitment based programme for parents and children to explore and manage the children's anxiety. Project CALM has successfully run out of a community services agency in Palmerston North, Aotearoa New Zealand for close to 10 years and has helped over 100 families to find a better way to live.
