Event description
Life's Illusions Gone: Living with hope in a new reality. A mental health and addictions symposium.

About this Event

The NGO Connected Workforce Group is excited to confirm the second Mental Health & Addictions NGO Symposium in the MidCentral district, will be taking place on the 5th of October 2020.

We encourage kaimahi, support workers, managers and people from our community to come along and enjoy this event. Be involved in this amazing symposium by registering now!

The theme is based around Life's illusions gone: Living with hope in a new reality. We are all having to adapt to new reality in 2020 but it is really important that we maintain hope for the future. We have a great line up of speakers and workshops to inspire and educate us, and some good food to keep us energised.

We have a fun programme with a good mix of key note speakers, a selection of workshops and a performance, so there's a lot of options to take away some new information and tools into your daily life and work.

We also have Te Pou and UCOL with us all day to provide resources and future learning opportunities.

Speaker Overview:

Blair Benefield: After spending a number of years in the army, he felt he had lost his purpose. He found it again while skateboarding the length of the country to raise awareness for mental health & PTSD.

Dr Dave Baldwin: GP, Flying Doctor, and author of Healthy Bastards. Dr Dave spends his days spreading the word of health and wellness to all parts of NZ, while having fun, being himself and living his best life.

Stacey Wilson & Louise Chan: On the matter of FACT. There's two you need to know about.

Janet Ellery: Every Body's Yoga: Mat not required.

Lacey Whiting: Trauma & substance use.

Neriza Tooms: Making self-care taste better

Mana Beats: Mana Beats is a music and hollistic workshop facilitated by Mana o te Tangata Trust. The focus is on working with tangata whaiora, using the process of creating music, digital design and video to teach individuals life skills that can be practiced in a safe environment.

Despite covid, we are still going ahead with the day if we are still at Level 2, with some additional safety precautions. Be kind, be safe.
