Welcome to the cozy home of Riff, Swing and Bebop. It’s a bit of a squishy squash of tumbling legs and snug spaces. They shouldn’t venture outside the door but oh what if they do? What’s out there in the blue? Before you know it Swing and Bebop are climbing out into a world of tricky sticky emotions and wild wondrous creatures. Inspired by Tantrums big, small and epic, Java brings you their signature style of live music, dance and imagination to lift you up into the clouds and help you find your way back to earth.

RELAXED PERFORMANCE: 11am Saturday

Target Audience: 3-10 years and their families

Loud Noises

Run time: 50 minutes

“Java Dance Theatre has created a magic work for children about navigating emotional terrain and how to cope with big overwhelming feelings.” Lyne Pringle, Theatreview

Dreamed up by choreographer Sacha Copland and Composed by Tristan Carter

Inspired by labyrinths, make believe, and the games you make up in your lounge, The Tantrum is a treat for the imagination and a little relief for anyone who has ever thrown their toys. The Tantrum uses music, dance and the imagination to tackle big, tricksy hard-to-figure-out emotions.

Described by The Post as a National Treasure, Java Dance Theatre has toured all over the world and to every corner of Aotearoa. The Tantrum was commissioned by the Capital E National Theatre for Children and researched with 100 five year olds through a Creatives in Schools Residency at Cashmere Ave School.
