Event description

Description

Want to learn about predators and trapping? Would you be willing to put a trap in your backyard to protect native wildlife (or maybe let someone check the trap for you)? Perhaps you have a few hours to spare each week to check traps. You may be an experienced trapper wanting to pick up a few more tips and tricks to improve your outcome or apply for funding to purchase more traps.

The workshop, sponsored in part by Predator Free NZ, aims to increase trapping to protect the amazing birdlife in your area.

Programme

9.30am – 9.45am: Welcome and introduction

9.45am-10.15am : Trapping and its role in bird management on the Ashley-Rakahuri River; case study of a successful multi-year community project, including practical advice on predator types in different contexts, the importance of monitoring and trap-catch recording.

10.15am – 10.30am: The specifics needs for trapping in this area

10.30am – 11.00am: Morning tea (we’ll even have chocolate biscuits!)

11.00am – 12 midday: Practical trapping demonstrations using a number of trap types, plus trap siting and baiting.
